On Sunday, Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi paid another brief visit to Islamabad, where Pakistan’s political and military leaders were keen to restart ceasefire talks between Tehran and Washington, but U.S. President Donald Trump said they could discuss the matter over the phone.
An official involved in the mediation efforts also said that Iran insists on an end to the U.S. blockade before a new round of talks. On Sunday, Araghchi also spoke on the phone with the foreign ministers of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The White House announced last week that it would send special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad, but Trump said he had cancelled the mission due to a lack of progress in negotiations with Iran.
