On Monday, Israel and Iran appeared to have refrained from further military action, just hours after the two countries exchanged fire for the first time since the United States reached a ceasefire with Tehran two months ago. Both sides have warned that they are prepared to launch retaliatory strikes if provoked.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will continue to strike against the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon, noting that Israel has a full right to self-defense and will exercise that right to the extent necessary.

Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, and Qatar have all urged the Trump administration to pressure Israel to halt its attacks on Iran and Beirut.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations said Monday that Iran and the U.S. are still working to negotiate a peace agreement.
