The United States and Iran announced separately on Monday that they would send delegations to Qatar this week, although Tehran insisted that it had not agreed to meet with the U.S. “at any level” after the attacks in the Persian Gulf over the weekend posed a challenge to negotiations aimed at ending the war.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that Tehran will send a delegation to Qatar, the key mediator in the negotiations, to discuss the terms of an interim agreement that does not involve the U.S. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will fly to Qatar.

A U.S. official said that Qatar plans to unfreeze $6 billion in Iranian assets, which will be used to purchase U.S. food for the Iranian people.
