According to a U.S. official familiar with the matter, U.S. and Iranian negotiators reached a preliminary agreement on Thursday to extend the ceasefire in the three-month-long war by 60 days and to launch a new round of talks on Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran did not immediately confirm any agreement. U.S. Vice President JD Vance confirmed late Thursday that the two sides had reached a preliminary agreement, but said it was unclear whether President Donald Trump would approve it.
As this memorandum of understanding was coming, the fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran appeared to be crumbling. According to U.S. Central Command, the most recent clash occurred less than a day ago, when Kuwait intercepted a missile launched from Iran.
