Lebanon’s health ministry said Monday that the death toll from the latest round of fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah has exceeded 3,000.
The ministry said that the current death toll from Israeli airstrikes stands at 3,020, including 292 women and 211 children.
Although Lebanon and Israel held groundbreaking talks in Washington, resulting in a ceasefire that took effect on April 17 and has since been extended through June, Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon continue. Israeli forces remain stationed across large swaths of southern Lebanon.
U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly called for a meeting between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Banjamin Netanyahu. However, Aoun has refused to travel to Washington at this stage to meet with Netanyahu or speak with him directly.
