On Friday, following an exchange of fire with Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. forces opened fire on two Iranian oil tankers, rendering them incapacitated. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates reported another Iranian missile and drone attack.
The U.S. military said Friday that its forces had destroyed two Iranian oil tankers attempting to break through the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports. Hours earlier, the military said it had thwarted an attack on three naval vessels and struck Iranian military facilities in the Strait of Hormuz.
Ami Daniel, CEO of the maritime intelligence firm Windward AI, estimates that approximately 80,000 barrels of oil have leaked from the Kharg Island since the oil slick was first detected in satellite imagery on Tuesday.
He added that the oil spill appears to be spreading southwestward and could reach the coasts of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, or Saudi Arabia within the next two weeks.
