Far-right leader Marine Le Pen has said she will run in next year’s French presidential election, even though a court ordered her on Tuesday to wear an electronic monitoring device for embezzlement.

This decision by the 57-year-old veteran—who has run for president three times—has ushered in an unprecedented fourth campaign: one in which she may seek votes under supervision, with a judge potentially determining how, and for how long, the punishment is applied.

Le Pen said she would file an appeal with the France’s highest court, a move that would suspend the one-year electronic monitoring sentence imposed on her.

An appeals court ruling earlier Tuesday cleared the way for Le Pen by shortening a five-year ban on her running for public office that had been handed down by a court last year.
