U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that, following talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and communication with Lebanese militant groups through intermediaries, Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to cease fighting.

The Israeli military recently carried out its deepest incursion into Lebanon in more than a quarter-century. Trump stated that no Israeli troops would be sent to Beirut, and that those already on their way to Beirut had been sent back.

He added that Hezbollah has agreed to cease all firing, and that Israel will not attack them, nor will they attack Israel.Netanyahu confirmed the conversation, but said he told Trump that if Hezbollah’s attacks do not stop, Israel would strike targets in Beirut, and that the Israeli military would continue its operations in southern Lebanon as planned.
