On Wednesday, just hours after the U.S. and Israel announced a ceasefire with Iran, Israel launched strikes without warning on busy commercial and residential areas in central Beirut. Lebanon reported that at least 182 people had been killed and hundreds injured, making it the deadliest day of the recent war between Israel and Hezbollah.

The Israeli military described this as the largest coordinated strike of the current conflict, stating that it had struck more than 100 Hezbollah targets in Beirut, southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley in the east within a 10-minute period.

Israel has stated that the recent ceasefire does not cover its conflict with the Iran-backed Hezbollah, although Iran and the mediator, Pakistan, maintain that it does.

According to reports in the Iranian state media, Iran announced late on Wednesday that it would once again halt the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz in response to the attacks in Lebanon.
