Russia’s energy minister said on Thursday that the country plans to send a second oil tanker to Cuba, citing the ongoing energy blockade against the country, and reaffirming Russia’s solidarity with the beleaguered Caribbean nation.
Just two days ago, the sanctioned Russian oil tanker Anatoly Kolodkin, carrying 730,000 barrels of oil, docked at the Cuban port of Matanzas. This marked the first time in three months that an oil tanker had arrived on the island. Experts say this shipment is sufficient to produce around 180,000 barrels of diesel, enough to meet Cuba’s daily demand for nine or ten days.
In Havana, hundreds of people gathered on bicycles, motorbikes and small three-wheeled vehicles to protest against the U.S. embargo on Cuba. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other officials watched the parade but did not take part.
