U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States was holding talks with Iranian leaders, claiming that the Islamic Republic of Iran was eager to reach an agreement to end the war. He also extended the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that Iranian power stations would face attack if it failed to do so. He said Iran had a five-day deadline.

Trump told reporters that Iran wanted to reach an agreement, claiming that U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner had held talks with Iranian leaders on Sunday. Trump’s change of stance offered the possibility of resolving the conflict.

But Iran denied that any talks had taken place. “No negotiations have been held with the US,” Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf posted on X, adding that“fakenews is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets.”

Meanwhile, Turkey and Egypt have stated that they have held talks with the warring parties, marking the first sign of coordinated mediation by regional powers.
