On Wednesday, Israel struck an Iranian offshore gas field. Meanwhile, Israel continues to target Iran’s top leadership, and the conflict is intensifying pressure on the region’s economic lifeline: energy.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the United States was informed of Israel’s plan to strike Iran’s massive South Pars gas field but did not participate in the operation. The field is one of the largest of its kind in the world and a pillar of Iran’s energy supply.

Iran has escalated its attacks on energy facilities in neighboring Persian Gulf countries, striking gas facilities in Qatar. Tehran also attacked the Habshan gas facility and the Bab field in the United Arab Emirates. Authorities in Abu Dhabi stated that the gas operations have been suspended following the interception of attacks on these sites.
