French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Thursday that Ukraine’s 26 allies have pledged to deploy troops to the war-torn nation as a “reassurance force” once the conflict with Russia ends.

Earlier on Thursday, Macron and other European leaders met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. envoy for peace negotiations Steve Witkoff to discuss ways to secure long-term military support and methods for the U.S. to continue backing Ukraine after the conflict ends.

Zelenskyy had previously stated that in a policy shift earlier this month, the U.S. had sent positive signals indicating its readiness to support security guarantees for Ukraine, similar to NATO’s collective defense mandate. It remains unclear what form such support would take in practice. Ukraine hopes the U.S. will continue sharing intelligence and providing air support.

Meanwhile, according to Ukraine’s Air Force morning report, Russia launched 112 strike and decoy drones across Ukraine overnight on Thursday. Russia also announced on Thursday that it was expelling an Estonian diplomat in retaliation.
