On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out at allies who are unwilling to do more to support the U.S. war against Iran, telling them to “go get your own oil” and stating that protecting the Strait of Hormuz was not the American’ job.
The President said that the military could wrap up the offensive within two to three weeks, and that the U.S. would not intervene in whatever happens next in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blockaded by Iran.
Trump once posted on social media accusing U.S. allies such as the United Kingdom and France of refusing to join a war with an uncertain outcome about which they had not been consulted.
Spain has become the European country most vocal in its criticism of the war. On Monday, the country announced that it had closed its airspace to U.S. aircraft involved in the conflict. Italy has also recently refused to allow U.S. military assets to use the Sigonella air base in Sicily for offensive operations.
