The Pentagon is seeking an additional $200 billion for the war in Iran. Such a substantial sum is bound to be challenged by Congress, and any new funding will require congressional approval.

U.S. debt has now surpassed a record $39 trillion. Congress has not yet authorised this war, and there is growing unease in Congress regarding the scope and strategy of the military operations.

Trump stated that the government is requesting the funds for reasons other than Iran. He said that, in order to ensure the U.S. military remains in peak condition, the emergency expenditure would be a “very small price to pay”.

Although the House and the Senate are controlled by the President’s Republican Party, most Democrats are likely to reject such a request and demand that the Trump administration draw up a more detailed plan regarding U.S. military objectives and aims.
